The Capital City Organic Gardeners have organized a Childrens Program with the The Green Team Kids. Each month there will be a different activity for the children to do while the adults are attending their own program. This free program is geared for children 3 and up who are comfortable in an active, hands-on classroom setting. Our Worm Friends: How worms help the soil in our gardens
CCOG Kids will be able to see, touch and feel real live earthworms!! We will search through compost to find these important garden creatures
and learn all about how important they are to our gardens. They will receive a special gift in celebration of Earth Day!
May 16
The Circle of Life: Discovering Seeds in Fruits and Vegetables
We will learn all about where to find the seeds in our most common fruits and vegetables. Children will learn of the life cycle of the seed from plant to tree to fruit and back again-and what everything that is needed for this miracle to occur.
June 20
Bug Hunting: Discovering garden creatures
Let’s go on a bug hunt! We will make bug catchers and use them to explore the gardens. CCOG Kids will learn the “good” bugs from the “bad” bugs.
July 18
Scavenger Hunt in the Garden
CCOG Kids will use maps to search for hidden clues throughout the garden in search of a special surprise!!!
August 15
Herbs and Kids: Herbs are green- but they still taste and smell great!!
We will pick various types of herbs and show CCOG kids how to use them and what they look and taste like. We will create herbal sachets that they
can bring home.
September 19
Harvesting Seeds and Creating our own Seed packets
Kids will have the opportunity to harvest seeds from various vegetables and learn how to dry them. They will design and decorate their own packets to use to store their seeds
October 17
Pumpkin Fun
We will enjoy fun and games with pumpkins like bowling with them and painting them!! CCOG Kids will get to take a sugar pumpkin home with them.
